Deborah Samson and the Youth of the Revolution
Deborah Samson disguised herself as a man named “Robert Shurtleff” and enlisted in the Continental Army in 1782. She served for over a year, was wounded twice, and kept her secret until after the war. She later became the first woman to go on a national lecture tour in America.
